Whether you’re brand new to clay or looking to deepen your existing skills, this 12-week wheel throwing class with Lauren Woods is designed to meet you where you are. Hosted at The Pottery Den, a community pottery studio in Bozeman, Montana, this course offers an encouraging and hands-on environment where students can build confidence on the wheel while exploring creativity through functional ceramics.
Throughout the session, students will learn the foundations of wheel throwing including posture, studio safety, centering techniques, and how to create forms such as cylinders and bowls using varying amounts of clay. As the class progresses, students will also explore surface design techniques including carving, sgraffito, mishima, and underglaze inlay, along with glazing methods that make finished work food safe and ready for everyday use.
Lauren Woods brings years of experience teaching in community studios and creative spaces throughout the Gallatin Valley. Originally from Vermont, Lauren has worked with clay since high school and now teaches students of all ages and experience levels through workshops, private lessons, and classes across Bozeman. Her teaching style is approachable, encouraging, and rooted in curiosity, making this class an ideal space to learn, experiment, and connect through clay.
